What you need for artificial planting

Three things turn this planter into a finished arrangement. They are sold separately, and all of them are listed under Pair it with below.

  1. The steel top — Newport Planter Small 29.5x28 Coal Black - Steel Top Insert. A powder-coated ring cut to sit inside this planter, with a central opening that takes the Fomosa pot.
  2. The inner pot — Plastic Black Fomosa Pot, 23 × 24cm. This is what holds the plant, and it drops straight into the opening in the steel top.
  3. A topping — bark chip or moss, whichever finish you want. It fills around the Fomosa pot and covers the steel top, so the planter reads as one piece. Bark chip is bought per planter — one 1kg bag for this size. Moss goes further: one 500g pack covers several planters, so you won't need one per pot.

The steel top is what makes this work. You don't pack the base with polystyrene, rubble or offcuts to lift the plant to the right height, and the plant can be changed later without digging any of it out.

Planting live in this planter

You need none of the parts above. This planter can be planted directly — there are markings underneath showing where to drill drainage holes, which is how we'd finish it for outdoors. No complete liner fits this size, so for indoor live planting the Fomosa pot is the practical route.

Care & Maintenance Guide

Routine cleaning: Dust the exterior regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For a deeper clean, wipe with a damp, soft cloth using only water or a mild, pH-neutral soap solution, then dry off.

Avoid abrasives: Do not use abrasive sponges, scouring pads or harsh chemical cleaners. These dull the matte terrazzo finish and cannot be undone.

Surface protection: Avoid dragging the planter across rough surfaces, which scratches the underside. Use felt pads if it will be moved often on hard flooring.

Indoor and outdoor: Suitable for both. Outdoors, drill the drainage holes marked underneath before planting directly, and stand the planter on feet or pads so the base is not left sitting in water.

Sunlight: The polyresin is weather resistant. In areas of intense direct sunlight, dust regularly to stop particulates building up on the matte surface.

Artificial arrangements: Lift the inner pot out to clean around it rather than washing the arrangement in place. Bark chip and moss lift straight off and can be rinsed or replaced.

Moving it: Lightweight for its size, but carry rather than drag, and empty it first when moving a planted arrangement.
