What you need for artificial planting
The Essex is deep, so a plant needs lifting to sit at the mouth rather than dropping down inside it. Two things turn this planter into a finished arrangement, and both are sold separately.
- The foam insert — High-Density Foam Insert for Essex Planter XS. High-density foam, precision cut to the shape of this planter. The Essex has no lip, so the insert seats against the inside and holds the plant up towards the top, where you want it. Nothing is packed into the base, and the plant lifts straight out when you want to change it.
- A topping — bark chip or moss, whichever finish you want. At this size you won't need a bag per planter: one 1kg bag of bark chip covers several, and a 500g pack of moss goes further still.
Planting live in this planter
You need neither of the parts above. This planter can be planted directly — there are markings underneath showing where to drill drainage holes, which is how we'd finish it for outdoors.
